Actually, I've not been away, but look in the left column! Yes, it says Kubuntu no more and Ubuntu forever! :)

Seriously! I didn't like the KDE environment! At first, I got seduced by all the eye-candy effects and thought that I'd never go back to Gnome. But then I started to use the system on a day-by-day basis, and the excitement began to drop pretty fast.

Firstly, I didn't like Dolphin; it felt like a degrade from Nautilus.
The same for the KDE system monitor.
And the package manager.
And the Gwenview image viewer.
And all the KDE crashes during a work day!

And after a while, and having tried several coolish desktop themes, it all got pretty fast boring and monotonic. And it reminded me too much of Windows in the end! So I downloaded Ubuntu 64-bit and is working with it now.

Finally I have my favourite well done and high quality OS and system applications back! I don't know if it's just me, but the 64-bit edition feels lightning fast when I work in the OS! Everything is so clean and stable; and Gnome (or the general 64-bit experience) feels so snappy and responsive compared to KDE!

I generally feel like getting back the high quality system that I left. But I feel like I'm now one experience richer; thanks to Ubuntu being free and you are able to just try every edition out! So I'm back! And I felt like making a little fuzz about it. Like anyone care. LOL! :D

Surprisingly enough, I actually agree on 3 out of 6 lines.

Gnome sucks! Dolphin is better than Nautilus. You should have stuck with KDE.

Lots of people who use Openbox

Oh, yes, because you can't remove panels and install docks anywhere else.

And openbox is not a DE.

Tin foil is not that effective; lead is much better. ;)

I have to agree KDE reminded me of MS Vista. KDE is the Vista of Linux. Some nice effects but uses too many resources.\\:D/
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic is well Tight!!

The number one thing I don't like about KDE. It's a trifling thing but I hate it. When you run your mouse over one of those plasmoid screelet things, a little sidepanel emerges from them. Maybe there's a setting to stop that but I couldn't find it. I like things on my desktop to stay still, and not be moving.

What about abestos? Perhaps I should have saved some when the landlord had the roof replaced.

Then again, my health aint so flash, so I might have to regress back to tin foil.

Oh now, come on!

I'm pretty sure you couldn't have missed the "Lock Widgets" button, I mean, it's freaking everywhere! :P

Surely you didn't abandon the best DE just for that :)

I found something to keep them in place on the screen, in fixed position. But still, when I run the mouse over them, this settings sidebar kept popping out. Is there something to stop that happening?

Yes, on the top right corner of the desktop there's a small button, click on it and choose "Lock Widgets".
No menus/sidebars should pop up after that. Widgets should stay put, too.

You should have continued using KDE.

KDE is much better than GNOME IMO.

Also, Dolphin is much more customizable and useful than Nautilus.

I do use Konqueror for browsing directories on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic. I've played around with the functions and KDE dependencies and I've got all the Konqueror functions working and some Extensions.
When the 2 browsers are side by side the KDE browser does look better. Konqueror takes a good second longer to open then Nautilus. Just long enough for me to think "is it working?"
It was Gwenview that got me looking at KDE but I wouldn't run Kubuntu again.
KDE + Kubuntu has it's place, each to there own. The are no limitations.... ;)

I tried KDE once and it made my attention deficit disorder (ADD) worse. Come on, do we really need all that junk? Gnome is nice and simple.
