Is there any reason why the option to download any form of karmic as torrent is not displayed upfront on the download pages?

There are no links pointing that way either...One has to google, then one finds the page below.

http://releases.ubuntu.com/karmic/

-Torrents for me are almost 20 times faster than regular downloads. 600 plus kb/s vs 45kb/s. This feature might encourage more people to try ubuntu.
-Also I believe it spares the main servers
-Some people also have connections that frequently disconnect and discontinue the regular http download, say at 670 MB, leading to some raised blood pressure.

Bit torrent option seems pretty plainly obvious on this page:

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors

I've used bit torrent for my last 3 downloads... it is fast.

I tend to agree with the OP.

Going to the Ubuntu homepage, and clicking on the large button that says "Download Now" will not lead you to a page with any bittorent links on it. There ought to be a link on that page to take a user to a torrent link.

Right under the download button there is a link that says:

Alternative download options, including Ubuntu installer for Windows

Click on it and it will take you to the page in the screenshot.

You're right, Cariboo907! (I tend to Ctrl-F a lot and don't look carefully with my eyes!)

But I had this experience while preparing to download the netbook remix, where, like venator260, I went to
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook from the Ubuntu home page
where "Alternate downloads" link is not available.

I don't like Ubuntu's download page. I agree it's hard to find the torrent downloads and other stuff, like md5sum checksums.

Take a look for example how friendly and easy to use is the openSuse download page.

Yes but it does not blatantly state bittorrent as one of those options in the link even though it should.

Bittorrent should be encouraged more...there is no reason why you shouldn't use it to download linux period.

I agree too. I lnow on release day there are always links to the iso's all over the forums, and they're pretty easy to find, but afterwards it is a little harder. I just use google to find them.
