Okay, my problem is:
I've installed a couple of programs using their .deb packages, and it says that the program was installed and what not (for both of them, no errors) and when I go to my Kickoff to try and find them... nothing! (well, just the two are not there.) So now i'm asking for help.
The two programs I installed are Blast and GIMPshop. Can anyone help me find the two programs I installed, and get them to show up in the Kickoff menu? I'm running Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala.
Thanks!

I have found that installed apps do not always show up under the menus (Application, System, etc) where you expect them.
Go to the Ubuntu logo at the top left corner, and click the right mouse button. Select from the popup menu the "Edit Menus..." command.
The window "Main Menu" magically appears before you.
In the left panel, you see the menu headers (Application, System, etc) and nested under them the menu items that appear or don't appear. The menu items that are hidden or do not appear will be unchecked and in smaller italic type. Do you see your installed program here or not???
The nice thing about Ubuntu's menu editor is that is made by you. YOu can add menus, and menu items (effectively commands), and have the menu items be valid command lines to start your programs...any program/utility/application you want, from a directory listing (ls) and other core classic Unix commands to complex applications.
A menu can have anything you want..or not want. Have fun.
I hope you find your app within the items area. If not, learn how to invoke your application from the command line, then create it as a menu item.

Okay... I don't see GIMPshop anywhere in the menus, and I have no idea how to get it into the Kickoff menu. Where do I find GIMPshop? I have absolutely no idea where to look to find the Linux equivelant to a windows .exe!

Does no one know what to do? I'm still stuck with no idea how to fix this!
