I finally decided to upgrade to 9.1 through the update manager. Everything seemed to go well until I visited some video sites. When I'm playing an HD video from Youtube or any other site it is real choppy and my browser window will go in and out of greyscale, until my system hangs. I can watch several videos of lower resolution before I get these symptoms.

If I could I would back out of this "upgrade" but I can't.

This might be important. I installed this on a different computer. When I had a mobo meltdown I just replaced the motherboard and video card with some others I had laying around (mobo was the same and the old video card was a matrox milenium and the new one is an ATI All-in-Wonder 9800.). I booted hoping I would get atleast a console so I could back up stuff for a clean install. It turned out everything ran better than it had before so I let it be. The "upgrade" broke stuff.
