View Full Version : Why does Linux move at light speed?

No other OS can take as much as this running at once! How does Linux do it? It makes my rubbishy little low spec machine fly even with EVERYTHING on!

So... why/how is it so great? :)

No Arch~Linux but Linux/~Arch. Therefore ~ is not an equivalence relation because a~b does not imply b~a. It fails at being symmetric.

I wish it worked at light speed for me :( Kubuntu Karmic is like treacle on my pc. I am currently thinking of restoring ubuntu 9.04 as I don't know whether it is kde4 or a driver/xorg problem and don't want to download and install ubuntu 9.10 to find the same problem.

yes yes, that's what it is!

Let's just ignore the fact that when I try the same thing on Windows 7... it BLUE SCREENS!

Linux is the only one that can achieve this kind of performance, at least on this machine (and every machine I have owned in the past that I can think of)

how did you get a screeny of my desktop? O.O

In math all you need is a set of objects. Don't necessarily need numbers. Equivalence relations work with sets, take the set of all linux distributions. My argument makes sense, sort of, but still it is a set of objects in this case linux distributions.

Also while on the subject Arch is an element of that set. So the set containing just Arch is a subset of the set. So {Arch} is a subset of {Linux Distributions} but {Linux Distributions} is not a subset of {Arch} therefore the sets aren't equal. Another way to interpret the meaning of Arch=Linux.

screenshot is achieved in many ways...two off the top of my head is:

menu>accessories>take screenshot OR

you can hit the "prt scr" button at the top of your keyboard (typically next to the scroll lock button)

That's not what he meant. He was joking, pretending he had that as his desktop.

Yeah... I know one guy (http://apcmag.com/why_i_quit_kernel_developer_con_kolivas.htm) who disagrees with that explanation. :)

This!

haha yes Frak, I imagined the 2 complete system lock-ups I had on Windows 7 :)

I also imagined the fact that I can't even move a window out of the viewable area without it jerking around (and yes I have the right drivers, and yes I have a reasonable graphics card!)
