vmserver 2.x & upgrade of ubuntu

I have upgraded Ubuntu a couple of times now, and each time I have to re-run the installation of vmware server in order to get vmware running again. I was wondering if there may be a quicker process for this.

btw: Its been the same version of vmware server 2.0.x

btw#2: somewhat new to ubuntu/linux and lovin every bit of it!
