I need to use Ubuntu 9.10 for a number of University classes, so it's easier for me to install to a USB since I often need to reinstall and take with me.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 to my 4GB USB stick, booted it persistently, and then updated Ubuntu. After the updates completed and I rebooted, the stick will no longer boot. It gets past the "Boot Ubuntu Persistently" screen and then hangs.

I think that the updates modified the files that make the USB bootable? How can I overcome this?
