Does ubuntu need antivirus ?
It is basically virus free
if any antivirus is needed which is the best for ubuntu 9.10 ?

NO :p unless you got FTP or similar server with files shared with other people.

That right but if you need one you can use,
ClamAV
AVG Antivirus

I run antivirus.

In my Windows XP virtual machine ;)

a virus is part of the windows world.You do need to
run antivirus on a VM with windows on it but linux is
safe.

I use BitDefender x64 for Unices....here's a screenshot on my blog:

I'm using it with Xubuntu x64 Karmic right now. But no, it's not really needed...I use it for spyware scans mostly.

When i used to run winblows i would have Avast running as well.

even though there are less viruses out there for *nix it is still suggested that you run an antivirus software. i would suggest bitdefender or better yet, Avast!...

you can get an Avast! key for free.

i do not suggest AVG for anything anymore...

I would suggest that you always know that your software sources are trusted by you, certified or whatever. If this is the case you don't need AV
