I have had a company laptop for the last week ish and well its been great I love being able to do my work at any place I want, so I think im going to fork out the cash for a laptop. Now I built my computer because I dident want to pay lots of money.

Any canadian ubuntu users have any recomendations?

Thanks

Many laptops will run Ubuntu just fine. I've got a Dell Inspiron 600m from last July, and it works almost perfectly (no 3d acceleration, but that may be my own fault). IBM (Lenovo now I guess) apparently also has really good linux support. There are also a couple of places online which sell laptops certified for linux.

Your best bet is to look for a model you like, and check out its page at http://www.linux-laptop.net/ . The information might be a bit old, especially on how to get certain devices working, but for general hardware support information, it's great. Hope this helps.

How cheap is cheap? US$300? US$500? US$1000?

If you like building your systems, Asus makes whitebox laptops (http://www.rjtech.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=ASUSW) that you can customize as you like.
