what is the best program to rip a dvd to iso? Can I just use mkisofs, will it work?

A lot of people use K9 Copy. I don't know if it rips to ISO though.

dvdripper and acidrip both work really well.

It does, I use it all the time to do that.

I just right click on the dvd icon and click "copy disc". its built into the system. then just set it to image file. then click the property's button to the right and set it to iso.

ah yes, I'm using that on my ubuntu an dd on my arch

I use K3b to rip DVDs to ISO. It does a good job.

oh, I'm more of a GUI kind of guy. I can never remember most of the CLI commands. well except the most important ones (sudo, gksu, that kind of thing:D).

Aww, geez, you guys with all your dandy programs. In my younger days we ripped DVDs using only cat and it was uphill both ways!

$ sudo cat /dev/dvd > filename.iso
