I am trying to install Ubuntu onto a spare HP DL350 G5 server that I have with a view to installing VirtualBox and then creating some virtual systems.

I seem to be falling at the first hurdle though.

I have successfully installed three different versions of Ubuntu. These have been a mixture of Desktop and Server versions in a bid to bypass the problem. The problem comes when I reboot the machine after a successful install.

The machine just hangs at the "Attempting Boot From Hard Drive (C:)"

No matter how long I leave it it wont get past that point, as if the MBR isn't visible. It must be seeing something though because it never moves past that onto the network boot option.

I have tried both the RAID configurations that are available in the BIOS and neither seems to make any difference. I do have IDE drive plugged in that is currently blank but the BIOS will not allow me the option to boo from this drive so I have yet to try installing on there.

I have Ubuntu'd & Virtual Box'd my PC and my Netbook with great success and am really keen to move on with this installation.

Can anyone please offer any insight in to what my problem might be?

Does it work if you take the IDE drive out?
