which do you think is better and why? chosing a laptop for my brother and was thinking of going with inspiron 14. he's going to college next year and was going to get it for a christmas gift

Which CPUs specifically?

The original "Pentium (I, II, III, IV)" and the "Pentium Dual Core" have nothing in common really. Intel just liked the name, and pulled it out of retirement, to the confusion of some...It was aimed as a low cost CPU-above Celeron, but below Core and Core2 in terms or performance/price.

As a general rule Core 2 Duo is better, but the current Pentium Dual-core is plenty good enough as it's simply a Core 2 Duo with less cache.
