I have been trying to develop a simple speech recognition system that recognizes as much as 20 words as an assignment. I have installed HTK on Ubuntu 9.1 and tried to follow the book by HTK team. Unfortunately, that book is too abstract and lacks clarity on how to do things. I have searched the internet but could not find a simple tutorial.

Is there anyone who can help me with it? I have gone as far as HMM definition and got stuck on HMM file creation. How can I create HMM files and train them? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

For anyone who is interested in using HTK to build speech recognizer, you will find a better manual than the HTK book at:
www.voxforge.com

The steps are more clear for beginners of HTK and, they are precise too. Enjoy reading and creating HMMs.
