Intel Atom WebServer

Anyone tired this? The idea intrigues me...buy a cheap neetop for $150 and use it as a server that costs $2 a month to run.

Wondering how the atom would fare running a few blogs and maybe a forum. Anyone know?

I've been thinking of trying this. Low cost, small space and low power usage. Why not give it a go?

For a few blogs and a forum, it should be fine (as long as it's not a high-traffic forum).

There are actually mini-ITX server products around using Via Nano processors, so your idea is unfortunately not as original as you'd think :-)

If my old Desktop with a AMD K6-2 333Mhz can run apache, mediawiki, file storage, cups and deluge torrent, then a 1.6 Ghz single core atom nettop would handle it fine, and a dual core would be great.

Yeah I've run servers on some pretty tatty hardware before so it should handle it just fine. Ultimately it's not the number of sites, but the amount of traffic to those sites, and how much processing they're trying to do (ie with php or mysql).
