I ran Ubuntu(9.10 32bit) off the CD and it worked fine.
Clicked on install to HD and went through the install all appeared to go fine.
When I started up the machine (with the HD set to boot first in the BIOS)
the GRU GRUB version 1.97~beta4 comes up select first
"Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14 generic".
I then receive an error "error: no such device" with a bunch of alpha-numeric
characters. I've also selected the recovery mode with the same results.
I've run from the CD the memory check..."Pass complete, No errors"
I've run the check media it also was fine. I've removed all IDE devices
powered up into the BIOS made sure everything was cleared, powered
down and connected only the HD. Powered up into the BIOS and made
sure the HD was read, set it to boot first, with the same results
"error: no such device"

I also ran Ubuntu from the CD and the folder to which the error refers
(on the HD) Does exist, and looks fine?!

Why isn't GRUB or whatever seeing the HD or the folder it's looking for?
