Is there a way to get the latest kernel version ( .31 ) or better ( .32rc8 ) on the installation cd?

I have problems with my intel Raid controller (Intel Q45/ICH10-D0 chipset / Adaptec 1430SA) that seems to be fixed in the new kernel.

Pardon my ignorance but doesn't the image downloaded from ubuntu.com has .31 for the server version too?

Alternatively, all releases are here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com

But they are marked only 9.10, 9.04, etc and not according to kernel.

Yep sorry your right, so ignorance is correct.
http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/serveredition/techspecs/9.10

The problem that I have is that all kind of distro's I've tried failed to install on my raid 0 configuration.

I got the error, boot delay or something like this
Then I get a console where I supposed to boot up the system manually :S

I am reasonably familiar to Linux but far from this.

Do you got a clue?

Haven't "played" with raid but ubuntu recommends the Alternate Install CD to be used for LVM and/or RAID. You end up with the same system as Desktop CD but the installer is text based, not GUI. However, you have more advanced options in the installer like lvm, raid, etc.
That's all I know, I swear. :)
