hi everybody. my name is jim. what im trying to do is install xubuntu 9.10 on an old ibook clamshell. currently the clamshell is running OS X. it has a 466mhz processor 320mb of ram and a 10gb hd. os x is running kind of slow so thats why i want to put xubuntu on. i went to xubuntu website and found the download for a powerpc. the problem is the iso is 724mb. that wont fit on a standard cd. ive heard of minimal iso but i havent found it for xubuntu. so im kind of stuck. does anyone have a suggestion? or maybe another operating system that would run well on an old machine. im giving the computer to my mom. she only needs to check her email and pay bill online. maybe burn a music cd. so im trying to give her something simple. thanks alot for any suggestions

jim

Try the alternate cd. It doesn't run live:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/ports/releases/karmic/release/xubuntu-9.10-alternate-powerpc.iso
it is 704 MB, should fit on a standard CD.

The link is for powerpc, here is a list of what you can get:

Have you tried to burn it to a normal CD?

If that doesn't work, why not get a 800 MB CD-R, like this one: http://www.opus.nl/produkten_detail.asp?l=&pdid=5307
