This update has been going on for 12 hourse now.
I am on a 10MBps down and the computer has a Q6700 and 4GB of ram.
How can I tell if this upgrade has frozen?
The terminal just shows Y being typed in over and over.

Has it completed downloading and started with the install, or is it still downloading?

Post contents of /var/log/dist-upgrade/* so we can see what is going wrong.

All right, something went wrong.

You may not have read this in other parts of the forums, but upgrading instead of performing a total reinstall might lead to issues.

My recommendation would be to DL the .iso of 9.10 and burn it to a CD then backup /home, THEN do a total reinstall.

The reinstall should only take 30 minutes.

ya i am about to, the clean install is not what worries me, setting up everything again on my server is what worries me.

Well, I can't really get any useful information out of the logfiles.

The problem could be related with ubuntuzilla, as it is the only thing in the logs that flags an actual error.

I never used this ubuntuzilla, so I know next to nothing about it. But if it is something that installs and/or updates stuff outside of the regular update/install process this could possibly cause problems.

I never have real issues with upgrading machines that just use software out of the repositories.
But this doesn't really help, you.

Maybe you should try a reboot, and see how broken it is, see if you can fix it.
If all else fails, there's always a clean install, like steveneddy said.

i'll just do a clean install, it could probably use it

FYI - If anything is installed outside of the repos - ubuntuzilla possibly, among others - could possibly lead to a borked upgrade process.

Since most of us have something installed outside of the repos, it is always better to just perform a complete reinstall.

Let us know how everything goes.

well i have already performed the clean install and set up most of what i need, working well so far.

thanks for the hint, i guess an upgrade will be out of the question next time as well, haha.

Yeah - this became apparent in the Edgy --> Feisty days.
