View Full Version : [SOLVED] Is there a safe(ish) way to install vista AFTER ubuntu?

November 21st, 2009, 03:29 PM

I need a small instance on one of my HDD to install vista on. My current situation is having Ubuntu installed as following:

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdb1 61519876 3786036 54608800 7% /
udev 1547788 320 1547468 1% /dev
none 1547788 1132 1546656 1% /dev/shm
none 1547788 296 1547492 1% /var/run
none 1547788 0 1547788 0% /var/lock
none 1547788 0 1547788 0% /lib/init/rw
/dev/sda1 144221592 21052036 115843516 16% /home
Everythign is formatted on Ext4. There is 18GB "unallocated, unformatted" space though. What would be the best way to proceed - format it in NTFS under linux or not?

I want to get the dual boot and I do not want to loose my Ubuntu installation. I've heard I can backup my /home folder and then just restore it on a new installation of Ubuntu, but I cannot do a backup onto Ext4 partition also (allegedly)?

Please, someone advise me whats the best way to get this vista instance.

Thanks a lot!
