View Full Version : [ubuntu] 9.10 installer doesn't recognise first hard disk

Hi guys & gals,

I know this is quite an epidemic problem but I can't seem to find answers. The 9.10 installer won't let me choose my first hard disk (SDA) from the list when installing.

If I boot the live CD, I can see SDA and the NTFS partition on it and even mount it. GParted can see the disk and the partitions fine, so I know the disk is working.

But when I come to install only my second drive is listed. Even if I select 'manual partitioning' I can only see SDB (and it's partitions) in there.

Clearly not a hardware issue as Ubuntu has no problem with the disks outside of the installer, but I can't seem to solve this one.

Any ideas? Help much appreciated :)

Thanks!

When booted with the LiveCD in terminal run:
sudo fdisk -l

or
sudo blkid

Make sure the drive is NOT marked as raid array member. I think there was similar situation and that was the problem. Also make sure you don't have any raid settings ON in BIOS.
