actually, you mean, everything you want to lose is in Evolution. i'd trust google's HDD reliability/redundancy before i'd trust my own for long term storage unless you're backing them up on a server.

The only limit is the space in your HDD :)

I'm using nothing in Gmail, its not my primary email client, though, I'm thinking of setting up automatic forwarding to it :)

Mail was meant to be downloaded from the server, deleted off the server, decrypted and read. In that order. The email server is not supposed to be your email archive. That's what your own PC is for.

With that said, my gmail inbox is obviously empty (if you choose to believe Google actually deletes your emails when your email client tells it to), but my local email archive is currently around 30GB in html, 10GB in plaintext. (and the equivalent size of both combined for the encrypted archive)

can you plz confirm again that eventhough we delete the mails (in gmail/ymail etc..) they are no longer kept in their servers?

I found this to have a largish error margin, and have better estimated it to be a 1.53% usage, but yeah, that's the idea.

I think it's quite impressive that I've managed to keep it so low, considering that I get sent daily backups of my blog database to that account.

read the privacy policy; it says somewhere in there that they keep the emails (paraphrasing) 'as long as they see fit'

You should read the privacy policies of some, or most, ISPs. Heck, lately the government here in Germany may even keep track of your email contacts (not contents) and keep that data for a while, even if you are not suspected to be a terrorist. It's one of the results of the "world-wide war against terrorism". I would like a "world-wide war against US initiated loss of privacy".
