Ironic is that this installer works with the fearful terminal.

If you can watch Youtube movies, then generally you have flash.

While this seems stupid, you can actually watch YouTube videos without flash installed. I'm not kidding. Just install Greasemonkey (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748) extension and then this script (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/41722). If you want proof, simply remove flash completely, restart Firefox and go to YouTube. The site will warn you about the missing flash plugin, but after a few seconds the mplayer plugin will kick in and play the video.

Additionally, if you have Video Download Helper (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006)or another YouTube downloader, you can download the video and watch it locally with mplayer. Flash is not required to intermediate the process.

One reply in the original link hinted that the next version of flash player will make use of the GPU. Does anyone confirm this?

Because there is no way that someone running Ubuntu could own another computer, or have access to another computer, or dual-boot windows, or have a puppy live CD, or access you tube on their phone or...........

My answer would not even require a GUI:

echo "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) partner" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list && sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install adobe-flashplugin

Eat that youtubers.

Becuase there are A LOT of idiots out there that just cant grasp something as simple as installing Flash and think its the OS fault. Then you here their post for months on end why Linux sucks.

I think the point is that you need Flash to watch the video.

:) It took me a while to get it too, it's a good bit of advice for proper 64 bit flash installing.

http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/2008/05/flash_uses_the_gpu.html

it's been available for a while as long as the person programming the flash iteration specifically optimizes it for that purpose. Of course that's by no means a good situation- legacy support would be very very nice :P

If you can watch Youtube movies, then generally you have flash.

You could always wget the .flvs and watch them in mplayer/gnash/whatever. In fact, that's my prefered method, since I don't want to support the inclusion of proprietary software such as Flash in GNU/Linux software distributions.

You can also watch you tube videos through Ubuntu Movie Player(plugin is enabled by default) as well, but that isn't the point. If you have to watch a video to install flash then I doubt you know about GreeseMonkey and I really really doubt you know about that script haha.

You could watch the video on your windows desktop after you have installed Ubuntu on your laptop. Or a friend's computer. So, no, I don't think it's a paradox.
