Hi!

Ran off to buy this machine after finding the price/specs superior, and reading some posts somewhere from people who had great experiences running Linux and using 3G on this one.

Now, my idea is to nuke the C: from it's Windows and what else they put there, and install Linux of some kind. What kind? I don't know, hence this thread!

Processor Atom 270
LCD 10, 1''
2 GB memory
250 GB HDD

I am a noob, and will be totally satisfied as long as I can go online via 3G and use OpenOffice with various languages. If something else non-vital bugs, sound etc, than that's no biggie.

Any suggestions?

I have the Netbook and it works great with Ubuntu and other Distros . . .

Most of the things just work out of the box . . .

There are just very few issues . . .

check out -> https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne/Ubuntu9.10#P531h

P531h

Status: Ubuntu 9.10 install with all updates on 01/12/2009

* No sound via the line-in and line-out, but the internal boxes and microphone works
* Closing the lid will not suspend.
* un/plugging the power cable suspends the netbook
* Logging out when another user is logged in will result in a suspend
* Other hardware works OOTB

Not sure how to fix them . . .

on the closing lid to suspend, i just use a keyboard shortcut to put the netbook in suspend mode and then close the lid . . .
