xubuntu 9.10 usb boot problem

I created a bootable flash drive using unetbootin
the laptop I'm trying this on is an old Toshiba satellite 1135-s1554
on the unetbootin menu I selected default and it gets to

loading /ubninit.......................ready and it just stops...no more cpu activity and the flash drive is no longer being read
same thing happens when I tried compatibility mode

I test the same flash drive on my desktop and it boot in just fine.

any suggestions?
