I want a very lightweight distro of linux that just boots fast to a very simple desktop and allows me to play music and casually surf the web.

I don't need to do anything else with this distro.

I had seen one somewhere some weeks ago but I don't remember where.:(

The article was about dual booting windows 7 and that distro.

The desktop of that distro was white.
It think it had a gmail icon and a few other icons.

Can someone please help me find that distro.

If this is not the correct board to post this in then please forgive me coz i am new and felt that this would be the right place to ask such a question.:P

Thanks in advance

have you tried Puppy Linux? It'll boot from a flash drive or just about anything else for that matter IIRC its about 100 megs and worked pretty decently last time I played with it

It was not puppy linux. :(

It does not need to be live.
It should be an os that only plays music and surfs the web.

For other things, I have a dedicated os.

I will be using this on my laptop to save power.

It was something like how windows sideshow was.
Just a small os that will boot up and play music.
Its not geexbox either

I assume it can play music... you might want to check with someone first! Midori is the default browser and I don't think it supports flash, but you always have the firefox option.

Isn't sprilinux just a desktop for ubuntu?

The distro that i am looking for had no mention of ubuntu.

That Os that i am looking for had a column of icons on the left side and that's it.
No task manager nothing else.

It looked a lot like windows sideshow

Please please help me.
I really need that distro

Spri is Ubuntu managed by IceWM and with far fewer programs, each program much lighter, no word processor, no image editor, you name it it doesn't have it.

What do you think we're doing? We are trying to help you!

Spri doesn't have anything on its desktop by the way.. i don't see how desktop icons are relative.
I checked and it does have a music player.

It looked a lot like linpus screenshot on thier homepage

Lite 1.2 : Internet module

Except that it was completely white ans the icons were arranged in columns and not rows
Maybe this may help you help me find the os.

If it can't be found. No problem. Is there anything that works like the ubuntu netbook remix but does not require an atom processor.
I use a core2quad

I know you'll are trying to help me.
Its just that i felt it would be polite to say please and not go off demanding stuff from the community:p.

Heh okay! I guess your tone was lost in the translation between spoken language and text. "Please please help me" Looked impatient and demanding.

You're using a core2quad.. to surf the internet and listen to music.. would you not rather use it to.. you know.. run a small country?

Anyway I don't know what distro you're talking about but maybe someone else will later.

I think that Spri or Puppy would be lighter than the netbook remixes anyway. But how it all translates to power saving i haven't an idea.

I guess he is either talking about Ubuntu's Netbook remix or Moblin.

I have some old people in the house(shared computer) and they would not follow windows 7.

That's why I want a simple linux distro for them to do all those simple things like surf the web and listen to music:p.

Moblin is more than likely what he's looking for

Midori does support flash, and it can play music with Listen

You may be interested in 'Browser Linux' which I just stumbled onto today. It is designed for the internet, period and as such, it is extremely small and very light weight. But even they say that if you want a distro that can do more than just surf the web, then get puppy Linux. It is only 78 Mb and it comes with a music player. This sounds just right for you; You can check it out and get it here (http://www.browserlinux.com/)

Ah ha! heh

you can get any distro in the world and just decide yourself what icons you want to have on the desktop, you can even get rid of the panels on ubuntu if you want, though i don't know why you would, if they are scary tell them to ignore them. And you can uninstall anything you feel isn't needed.
What processor do you have in the computer you're using for everything else?
