In KDE, the panel is where windows are when they are minimized or whatever. Is there any way to remove that capability from the panel? I added AWN dock to KDE and I want the dock to manage the windows and whatnot.

Right click empty space in the task manager (unlock widgets now if you haven't done so), click "Remove this Task Manager".

Bingo! Thank you.

Next question - how can I add system monitor to the top panel?

See how I have the system monitor at the top? I'd like that in KDE... but I can't figure it out...

You could drag one of the system monitor widgets (right click desktop/add widgets) and dragging it to the panel. If any are not to your visual liking you can look for more widgets on http://kde-look.org

Yeah, but with Gnome I can expand them. With the ones I just added in KDE, I can't make the actual notifiers bigger at all. How can I make them bigger?

Mmm I don't think you can expand widget sizes in the panel. So you're sorta struck there. :p
