I use gedit with latex plugin but is not very useful (lame as a matter of fact). i guess i will try kile and texlipse. what's your favorite?

Emacs. I hear very good things about the Auctex extension for it, but I've never bothered.

There's Geany and Texmaker. I haven't used them very much, though. Generally I prefer to use LyX, but that's a different concept.

vim and vim-latexsuite are good. I know emacs has auctex which I've heard is very powerful.

I used gedit in the past until I found geany. I use these editors for coding / scripting too, I like having the same tool (read interface) for whichever file I'm editing.

I find texlispe / eclipse a bit sluggish, but I know a few people that use it.
