We have a master server machine that we would like to use to create new servers that are exact copies.

Using tar to create a server archive, extracting the archive to another machine, which means we had to do a basic partition and formatting of the new drive, extract the tar file, then run GRUB.

The machine won't boot because of conflicting UUIDs. This means editing fstab and the boot line... ugly.

Is there a way to install/partition/format a machine that DOES NOT USE UUIDs but just the classic /dev/sda1 ?

We have a mandate to not use "dd" because of known human errors.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
