Extreme noob here, explicit instructions would be a great help.
I just installed karmic koala and had to use the alt cd because of flashing color lines. The alt cd let me use the text based interface and installed just fine. When I rebooted the part where it would normally have loaded the desktop was just more flashing color lines. I've read a few posts about this and it seems that ubuntu doesn't recognize my video card or my monitor. I'm not sure how to fix this. I have no experience with the command lines, but that's not even the real issue, if someone told me what to type I could, the problem is that I cant see the screen even if it does allow me to access the command line. If it's any consolation, the person kind enough to bear with me will get me through my first step to a windows free existence.
