I've installed Karmic on an Inspiron 1501. I've tried everything up to and including ndiswrapper but I finally figured out that Karmic isn't detecting the card at all. The hardware reads as "not present."

What can I do?

Hi I am also trying to get my wireless card to work on my laptop using Karmic. However I also have an install of windows XP on my laptop and found that I must rely on windows to enable and disable my hardware. For example my wireless usb modem only works on Ubuntu after I have booted windows with the modem inserted. Then I reboot loading karmic and the modem works.

I find this to be a pain and at the very least a defect in ubuntu as it should be able to detect wireless cards upon insertion just as all other modern OS do or provide the option to enable/disable hardware.

I look forward to the answer to your post as many of mine on this topic have gone ignored leading me to believe no one knows or they are just unwilling to help.
