Ok, I'd love to cross over and use Ubuntu and other Linux derivatives but have not been able to find any explanation on how to install software applications I want use on Ubuntu.

I'm using the current 9.10 Ubuntu and wish to be able to utilise software that will see this OS get a lot more use than the Windows OS on this notebook.

I need "REAL SIMPLE" explanation on how to install software, so someone very patient that is willing to have a fast learner (in most IT related areas) cross over to the bright side of computing and become a proficient Linux user, then give me a hand.... PLEASE!

Cheers.....:-k

You should also check out the documentation on www.ubuntu.com under support for Karmic. There is a complete section dedicated to "repositories" (repositories are places from where you can download and install any software that you want).
