Recently I installed Xubuntu 9.10, being my first Linux OS.
I want to make the top panel (the one with icons and system trays) transparent, but don't know why.

I googled and read many posts, having found a menu with options to make the panel opaque or transparent (right clicking in the panel), but this version of Xubuntu don't have this option.
Do I have to install anything first?

Help, please.

Right-clicking the panel, choosing Panel Settings and clicking the little box that says "Enable Transparency" works on mine.

Unfortunately not on mine. When I right click on the panel, I choose "Customize Panel" and here are the available options:

What can I do? Why don't I have the option that you mentioned?

Settings -> xfce4 settings manager - > window manager tweaks -> compositor -> check "enable display compositing" -> press "Overview button" -> Panel -> Unheck "Make active panel opaque" (do it for Panel 1 and if you need for Panel 2) -> by "transparency slider" choose your level of transparency.
