hi all
after receiving an update to my laptop for ubuntu 9.10 i can no longer run 9.10. i get to the grub loader select 9.10 and wait, the screen goes black and nothing happens, when i eventually press esc key i am returned to "initramfs" prompt.

going back to the grub loader, i also have vista and i very small partition with ubuntu 9.04 on it.

is it possible to rescue my 9.10 version or do i have to start all over again

please keep this simple i am a user not a geek:D

just to add
before i get the initramfs prompt i get:

missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT ,,,,,....text...,,, disc does not exist dropping to shell
