cannot use card reader

I am using Karmic on my Acer laptop.It has a Realtech inbuilt card reader.But i am not able to use it.Even if I insert the memorycard it does not show anything (may be it is unable to read the card).Am I missing some drivers?Iam a new user .Cant figure it out myself.please help me out.
