I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on an older Dell Laptop (P3, 600 Mghz). I've lost some funtions. Is there any way to restore 8.04 without having to off load all of my work?

No idea what you're talking about here. Do you mean you are running 9.04 (Jaunty) and want to downgrade to 8.04 (Hardy) ?

It's 8.04, Hardy. There are some obvious desktop functions missing, most obviously the Ubuntu calendar and the user icon on the far right, top.

I can't get the upgrades to successfully install and I believe there are some internals that are corrupted but I'm not techy enough to track them down.

I have a CD with 8.04 on it, but it doesn't give you the option to restore the OS only. I want to do a repair not a reinstall.

There is no simple way to "downgrade" from one version of Ubuntu to another. You will have to do a complete reinstallation.

If you back off everything in /home, you will at least be able to save your settings.
