I originally tried the upgrade route but that had major problems so did a clean install.

I eventually reverted back to 9.04 after KDE bluetooth didn't work properly and Seamonkey 2/Firefox 3.5 were so unstable they kept crashing.

There are a few things I can't get to work properly in KDE 4.2 and can't upgrade to 4.3 in 9.04 so undecided whether to attempt upgrade again.

Thoughts?

My advice would be to identify or report the bugs you had in launchpad (https://launchpad.net/) and wait for those to be fixed or you're just doing another blind upgrade and asking for trouble.
If you want to experiment, try installing to a flash drive or spare hard drive.
Personally, I don't do upgrades. I prefer to install the new version to a new drive so I have the old version available should something go wrong.

That's a good idea. I have a 1TB drive so plenty of room.

I assume I can copy my home folder across to avoid losing all my settings (which I wouldn't if doing an upgrade)
