Would you believe - I have stumbled upon this local forum and have thought exactly the same thing as you!!!! There is only 1 other guy I know in Durban who is quite involved in the UBUNTU thing. Sad hey?

Anybody else that's closer to Ballito?

I'm in Durban every now and then but only over weekends.

We should probably take this to the mailing list as well?

Another Durbanite here, I just joined the ZA LoCo team on Launchpad (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-za) and also noticed there's no Durban chapter.

Let's see if we can round up more of us :D

Hi All

Just thought I would drop in to say hello. I was born in Durban but have lived in the UK since 1960. Still have family out there.

I have recently moved back to Linux. Used to run Mandrake a few years ago but now have Ubuntu Linux v9.04 installed. Great experience and can't believe how lightning fast it is.

Good luck

Regards

Ive been playing with Ubuntu since version 5, but keep moving back to windows as i do web development in coldfusion, and cant find something equal to dreamweaver with the autocomplete of tags.

Im running XP again, but considering trying Ubuntu again. I run Ubuntu JEOS in a few Virtualbox installations, for testing purpose.

Are there ever meets for the durban group?

Hi HH and Nixforce :)
You should think about running XP in the virtual machine, Ubuntu can host your web server, database and whatever else you need ;)

I don't think auto-completion of tags should be a valid requirement to move to Ubuntu/Linux. Besides, there's plenty of IDE's with xml/html support like Eclipse, Netbeans, IntelliJ IDEA, jEdit, and I think even GEdit too. Kate would be a candidate but I'm not too sure.

@pavi hmm, maybe we should organize something for the 10.04 launch. Will hear what the guys at the office thinks about it!

Hi guys

Im also from Durban. Im a relatively new linux and ubuntu user (all of three years). Im loving ubuntu and the freedom you have to do what you need to do with your computer. Coming from a 13 year ******* background, ubuntu is a breath of fresh air!

Ive been looking into how I can contribute back to the ubuntu community in thanks for producing a wonderful OS and stumbled on this site via the main ubuntuforums.org site - I never thought that there would be a South African Ubuntu community- ive always been under the impression SA was ******* terratory. Nice to see Linux taking off here.

Hope my limited ubuntu experiences can help someone sometime.

Regards, Craig

Im also from Durban, Camperdown, Near Cato Ridge....

Im also new, but very into the PABX (aka Asterisk in this part of the World.) And would like to really get more involved more with Ubuntu and edubuntu. So how do me find all the other ubuntu users and get this durban thing up and launched...
