Hey, all,
I was hoping this would disappear with a little time... but it's starting to get frustrating. I will be sitting here with multiple windows open, and suddenly for no apparent reason, I get booted out to the login screen. BAM! ... I log in and have to bring up all my programs again.
There is no rhyme or reason that I can see to the restarts.
I cannot see anything in /var/log/messages or /var/log/dmesg that tips me off to anything in particular.
It happens at different times, and when I am doing different things.
It has happened _right after login_ before I had a chance to do _anything_ else.
Please tell me what you need from me to begin diagnosing the problem!
Oh, yeah, and this happened after an _upgrade_ of an existing system. Not a fresh install.
Here is my setup:
-----------------------
32 bit Karmic Koala
Gnome
Compiz Fusion
Pidgin
Thunderbird
uname -a: Linux desktop 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
-------------------------
Now, since the upgrade, the computer has been telling me that my older HDD is starting to fail. (saying that it has multiple (-1) bad sectors). But I don't know how to determine if _that's_ the problem, or if something else is.
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!!!
UPDATE / EDIT: I guess the problem has worked itself out.
