Hi, I just recently made the upgrade to karmic 9.10 and it has been a great to use.
And so I was fiddling with my system last night, and removing things (applications) that I felt I didn't really need to be installed. I removed the entire Python suite and all of the dependencies, and so now I have no gui. When I boot up, I get the ubuntu splash screen, but after that, I'm in cli mode. Can anyone help me out with this?
I know better now just to leave the python suite installed.

You can start with:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

...but maybe reinstalling karmic would be faster;you kicked lots of stuff.

OK-I'll give it a try and report back with results.

nope, your advice didn't help because in cli mode, I'm not sure how to control my wireless settings. My laptop should pick up a signal automatically, but when I enter 'sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop', I get http: fetch errors, so I'm not able to connect to the net to install anything. Any more advice before I rebuild?

I took care of this by reinstalling ubuntu. SOLVED if you will.
