can't install skype to ubuntu 9.10 x32 karmic

hi,
i had some problems with the skype so i deleted it completely by synaptics
i went to download it again from the site but when i run the file

skype-ubuntu-intrepid_2.1.0.47-1_i386
it says
Error: Wrong architecture 'i386'

i tried also to install it again by synaptics but it says to check the repositories

please help

i386 is for the 32-bit architecture.

If you have a 64-bit system, and the OS is 64-bit, you must download the x64 version.
