Problem with xp and ubuntu 9.1

HI

My problem is:

Previously have the ubuntu 9.04 and windows xp.

The windows xp in the primary hard drive
The ubuntu 9.04 in the second hard drive

Install the grub in disk windows xp and modify the menu.lst and work good.

I am upgrade the ubuntu 9.04 a 91.0 and the upgrade failed, and crash the ubuntu.

The xp worked and the ubuntu 9.04 no.

I am install the 9.10 in the second hard disk, and the ubuntu 9.10 work perfectly and the windows xp, the grub detect but selecting the windows xp in the grub the screen is grub: and the all screen in black.

I am tested, with only xp and entry in mode grub recovery.

I am reinstall the grub with command grub-install /dev/sdb, but still not working.

I am tested change the ubuntu primary hard disk and xp second hard disk and the results is similar.
