catalyst 9-10 and karmic

cannot install catalyst driver 9-10 in karmic. gedit states:

Could not open the file /home/anon/Desktop/ati-d…aller-9-10-x86.x86_64.run using the Unicode (UTF-8) character coding.

Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a different character coding from the menu and try again.

i have also tried changing the coding but no dice. any ideas?

gedit is a text file editor. It's quite rightly warning you against trying to open a binary file. Like notepad opening an exe file.
