I just signed up for netflix for use on my xbox 360 but it is really slow. Everything works perfectly on windows so i would rather just watch movies on my computer. thing is i don't want to reboot just to use netflix. so what are the chances micorosoft releases a version for linux?

Apparently Microsoft are working with Intel to port it to Moblin at the moment. So if it comes to Moblin there's a good chance it'll eventually find it's way to the main distros too.

I highly doubt microsoft will ever release anything for linux.

I think there is an alternative called moonlight but I don't know how it works or if it works with netflix. You might want to search around.

Really? Why would MS do this?

I think they want to get Silverlight onto mobile devices, and porting it to Moblin is the first step.

Moonlight is the opensource version I believe of it as said... Think its opensource anyways but it plays some Moonlight things!

Netflix is almost working in Moonlight SVN - the problem is the DRM used by Netflix, which is not (and cannot be) supported by Moonlight

You could use a virtualbox to watch your movies, but that's the next best thing to rebooting.

I don't understand how this is "almost working". This sounds more like "can never work without MS help".

+1

In addition. If there is something on windows you need to run and hate dual booting. Then just install Sun VirtualBox and then install your copy of windows on the VB. That way you can run windows on your desktop at the same time. It works good.

They will lunch a Linux version on the 30th of February next year.

Run Windows in a virtual machine, I use Virtual Box; netflix works great this way.

When Netflix will release a Linux client, I dunno, they finally got out from under the MS contract, so its now available on my PS3 and running very smoothly I might add. It's time to request a client for Linux now I spose.

Oh good grief, nm... Off to study the Gregorian Calendar again, I seem to have forgotten about February.

If Netflix stop using DRM, or switch to a cross-platform DRM solution, or convince Microsoft to license their DRM platform to the Moonlight developers, then it's good to go.

Novell should start reverse-engineering the DRM to try and crack it. They're allowed to do that under the DMCA for "interoperability purposes".

Did you use user agent switcher to get that far along?

I get an ActiveX error:

Dunno, not my screenshot. And doesn't help you, given DRM.

First option: Never going to happen
Second option: Maybe, but this is also totally out of the hands of the moonlight developers.
Third option: Does not seem likely and certainly falls under the caveat of "not without MS help"
