Hello,
This is my very first post on the website and my first experience with ubuntu that i am trying to install on my computer.
I have a 64bit laptop with Windows 7 on one partition and installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a different partition using a usb flash drive and unetbootin. But after finishing the install (which runs without any problem) and upon the machine restart, i only see listed in the GRUB three options :

-memtest86
-memtest86(console ...)
-windows 7

my Grub version says 1.97 beta 4

i tried to use the instructions on this other thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1319202)
I booted again on my flash drive and upon the trial version loading, i opened the terminal window.
but when i try to reinstall the grub
i get the message cannot open boot/grub/device.map

Can anybody help me with this? i would very much like to be able to use ubuntu.

Please let me know if you need additional info, i don't really know what you might need to diagnose or fix the issue

Thank you
