does anyone know of a text editor like notepad++ that has syntaxhighliting for ubuntu?

If you just want syntax highlighting, gedit will do that, as will vim, emacs, kwrite, and kate.

So the Gnome text editor won't cut it, huh?

Seems like all of the main features are there in GTE as NP+

Try Geany ( in the repos).

There a win32 version as well

You can use Notepad++ with wine, it works great.

You can use geany, It has all the functionalities that notepad++ has to offer.
Initially i was also having troubles in switching completely to windows because I couldn't get an editor with the smart highlight option in it.
Also geany has some very useful plugins which you will surely find to be very much useful
