I hope that somebody could give me some advice about how to get programming in Ubuntu.

I have used C++ before but am quite rusty now as I have not used it since graduating. I am more confident in Visual Basic programming and HTML, making CSS and so on. I enjoy making offline applications the most rather than web based programs. I would love to make a small game one day.

If at all possible, could somebody suggest a good starting place to get me running?
