Okay, i am guilty of not reading the release notes prior to clicking upgrade, and now I have an issue. I had 8.10 running and I tried to upgrade to 9.10. I have since found out that was a no-no. Problem is that my 8.10 install is now broken, and I don't know how to fix it. It shows up in GRUB, but neither it nor the recovery mode will not boot correctly. I get the following error.

init: spreadahead main process (2068) terminated with status 1
mountall :proc: Device or resource busy
mountall :proc/self/mountinfo: No such file or directory
mountall :root filesystem isn't mounted

Then it gives me the option to kill it "Crtl-D" or login as root.
No matter what I do, I cannot bring up X windows. Please help, I would like to retrieve this OS image with all its settings. Right now I am running an 8.04 install that I had. Thank you in advance.
