Potatoes were on sale and I ended up buying way too many. Now I have to think of ways to eat them. Besides mashed potatoes and potato bread, what are some good ways for Linux users to cook potatoes?

1. Cut them into skinny french-fry sticks. Coat with olive oil. Sprinkle with onion powder, garlic powder, season salt, and paprika. Spead on cookie sheet, not too densely. Put in 400 degree oven until crispy.

2. Get a big pvc pipe, a bottle of hairspray, and a lighter. err... never mind....

Why help? They last for ages.

BBC Good Food is a great site for recipes, and returns over 547 potato recipes rated as "easy" (http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/search.do?filterItem=difficultyEasy&keywords=potato).

I can do some sort of chowder. Good idea. One pound down -- nine to go.

That made up about 1/3 of my diet the last two weeks (though with sweet potatoes). I guess I can force a few more down. Two more pounds -- seven to go!

I've had some of them in my pantry for a while. :(

49 cents a pound can override your better judgment.

Roasted
Boiled
Deep-Fried
Steamed

hang on, so you could get ~1kg for 1 cent?

I think it's time for the PVC pipe then.

1. Baked with all the trimmings (cheese, chives, sour cream, bacon or chopped meat, butter, salt, pepper)

2. Twice baked potatoes (great with some type of grilled meat, like steak for instance)

3. Au Gratin potatoes (sliced and baked in a casserole pan with cheese and maybe bacon)

4. Fried (like french fries)

5. Fried potatoes and onions (a Southern US favorite - in a pan add potatoes and a little oil, cook until done. In the middle of cooking potatoes add onions, green and red peppers and your favorite sausage) serve with a big pot of beans

6. Hash Browns (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kjvt8RQ3ow)

7. Get a piece of PVC pipe, some lighter fluid......wait, don't try that...

8. Potato soup

9. boil them with bacon or sausage and onions and green beans - serve with pork chops and bread

10. Whatever is left, plant, and next year you will have more free potatoes!

Baked potatoes with butter and cheese (maybe bacon, too) are really good. I can't really think of anything that doesn't really taste like potatoes, though. Also, this may not be practical for your situation, but it's interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potato_doughnut.

your problem isn't 10 pounds of potatoes, it's getting your hands on 100 pounds of butter. (if ever there were proof of black holes, it's baked potatoes.)

That there is another good idea. I never seem to buy junkfood, so why not make my own?

Also, one condition of my parole was that I don't launch any vegetables at high velocity again. The stupid, delicate neighborhood kids can't take a welt or two.

I did this, and recommend it highly. If you have a couple at the end that grow a bunch of eyes, cut them in half and bury them in the ground. Plants will grow from this. When the plants die dig up the potatoes. I got 30 beautiful potatoes from 2.

We do this all the time.

A home garden is really worth the money savings and time.

Potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce and cabbage, green beans and peppers are easily grown at home, even on a porch or balcony of an apartment in the city.

Do what we Irish did for years and make poitchin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poit%C3%ADn) :) We have a load of ~90% poitchin at home, and damn, that stuff will put hair on your chest :)
