lagging after motherboard upgrade and 9.10 upgrade

Hey all,

i had some technical difficulties and had to upgrade my motherboard.
after upgrading my motherboard i upgraded to ubuntu 9.10.

i am currently suffering from lagging.
for instance, i press the "file" button in open-office and it takes about 6 seconds to respond.

how can i fix this problem?
