View Full Version : [SOLVED] Wireless not working on HP dv6000 and dv3

Wireless worked ok on both Hardy and Jaunty, and initially OK on Karmic.
It stopped working like two days ago with Karmic on two laptops of mine. I didn't remember if there were a system update but it was certainly all of a sudden.

Now it just keeps prompting WEP/WPA on corresponding network with no luck.

try entering

sudo iw reg get
this will print out your wireless cards
world wireless domain zone(a 2 capital letter country code(zone) ie US (for USA) or AU (for Australia)or GB(for Great Britain)etc.etc,followed by your frequencies,channel bandwidth,RX antenna gain setting,TX power setting.this COUNTRY CODE must be the same as your wireless network that you are trying to connect to or keep connected to.
you must set your wireless card to the same zone(country)as your wireless router for proper wireless network operation..
enter the following

sudo iw reg set {insert your 2 capital letter country code}
a few example country codes
Australian zone =AU
USA zone =US
China zone =CN
Japon zone =JP
i used 'sudo iw reg get' and found
my computer was set to CN (China)
so i set it to (Australian zone) AU
by using 'sudo iw reg set AU'
this only works till reboot.
you will need to write a startup bash script containing

#!/bin/bash
iw reg set XX ## {replace XX with your routers country code}

and set it to run on computer startup.

However I found that the "iw reg set" does not change my wireless country code as expected...

I also found that the country code is not in capital letter but two-digit number...

Problem solved.

The problem was the blacklisted driver in

/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf

commenting it out (i.e. removing it from blackist) solved my problem.
